We left Bangkok this morning to fly to Chang Rai. Greeting us in the airport was a children’s band playing Christmas carols.
Then we were greeted by our driver. I’m sorry to say I can’t remember his name now, but he was wonderful. In our hour drive to the Golden Triangle he shared regional history and pointed out landmarks including 750 year old temple.
Once we arrived at the Golden Triangle we were lead to a boat which would transport us the rest of the way to the Tented Camp.
In the photo above I’m in Thailand, but across the river is Loas. As we traveled in the boat we crossed through both Loas and Burma. That’s why it’s called the Golden Triangle – it’s where the three countries meet.
When you arrive at the Tented Camp you are asked to ring the gong three times.
It was amazing journey to arrive at the most remarkable place we’ve ever been.
